Police probe death of man, woman in Elko hotel room

ELKO — Police in northeast Nevada are investigating the death of a man and woman at a hotel in Elko.

Elko Police Lt. Mike Palhegyi says officers were called to the Red Lion at about 1 p.m. Friday after a maid found their bodies lying next to the door of their motel room.

Investigators say the 60-year-old man and 55-year-old woman were from Tennessee.

Palhegyi told the Elko Daily Free Press that a preliminary investigation indicates controlled substances may have been a contributing factor in the deaths.

Their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
