Park service identifies hiker found dead at Zion

The hiker who was found dead in Zion National Park on Sunday has been identified as a 34-year-old Californian man, Douglas Yoshi Vo, according to the National Park Service.

Vo’s body was found by a search team at 2 p.m. along the bank of the Virgin River.

The Park Service says Vo and a male companion were attempting a hike in the Zion Canyon Narrows on Saturday morning when they encountered a flash flood. The companion made it to safety, but Vo was trapped on high ground.

The companion contacted rangers around 6:30 p.m., but no rescue effort could be made until Sunday, because of the flood.
