No charges in shooting death of former Vegas developer

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against a man who fatally shot a former Las Vegas developer in southern Utah.

The Washington County Attorney’s Office ruled the July shooting of 70-year-old Stephen Aizenberg in Leeds was in self-defense.

Police say Aizenberg walked up the driveway of a neighbor’s home and pointed a handgun at the residents who had called 911.

A man and several women visiting the neighbor were unsure why he came to the house, and the male visitor shot Aizenberg as he continued to walk toward them with his gun pointed at them.

County prosecutor Ryan Shaum told The Spectrum of St. George he was unsure why Aizenberg carried a gun to his neighbor’s property.

He declined to identify the man who shot Aizenberg. The man earlier was identified as a retired law enforcement officer.
