Nevada inmate, 72, dies in Lovelock hospital

An inmate died Saturday in a Lovelock hospital, the Nevada Department of Corrections said Monday.

Eugene A. Mauwee, a 72-year-old Native American man, died at 1:28 p.m. Saturday at the Pershing General Hospital, the department said in a Monday news release. His cause of death has not yet been determined by the Pershing County Sheriff’s coroner.

Mauwee was committed to the Lovelock Correctional Center on Jan. 19, 1990. He was serving two life sentences for first-degree murder with a deadly weapon enhancement, the release said.
