Motorcyclist fatally shot on Northern California highway

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A motorcyclist was shot to death on Interstate 80 near Truckee, prompting authorities to close the highway for hours to investigate.

The California Highway Patrol said three motorcyclists rode up to the victim Saturday afternoon and fired gunshots before taking off. The victim died at the scene.

CHP Officer Pete Mann said the victim was associated with local motorcycle clubs.

Investigators were trying to gather information about the assailants and were asking witnesses to come forward.

Westbound lanes of the interstate were closed at the Nevada state line, causing traffic to back up for miles.
