Las Vegas man falls to his death at Grand Canyon

A Las Vegas man visiting the Grand Canyon with his family fell to his death Thursday afternoon, according to the National Park Service.

Juan Carreras-Soto, 29, fell about 400 feet from the edge of a rim trail east of Mather Point, about 275 miles east of Las Vegas, the park service said Friday in a news release.

A rescue team, accompanied by a helicopter, were called to the canyon about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, the park service said. After an extensive search they found his body and were able to recover it Friday morning.

Soto’s fall is believed to be accidental, but the park service and the Coconino County coroner are still investigating.
