Governors pick Sandoval for education panel
CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval has been selected to serve as chairman of the National Governors Association Education and Workforce Committee.
Sandoval was named to the post by association Chairman and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Vice Chairman and Utah Gov. Gary Herbert.
“Governor Sandoval is the right choice to help shape the policies to prepare today’s workforce to help America compete in the global marketplace,” Herbert said. “He understands the importance of education for individuals and for the economy. Nevada has benefited greatly from Governor Sandoval’s leadership and so will the National Governors Association.”
The Education and Workforce Police Committee ensures that governors’ views are represented in the shaping of federal policy in the areas of workforce development and early childhood, K-12, and post-secondary education.
“As governor, it has been my top priority to ensure economic security for Nevadans by improving our education system, workforce programs, and ensuring opportunities for both businesses and job seekers,” Sandoval said.
“I’m honored to serve as the new chairman of the Education and Workforce Policy Committee and look forward to working with my colleagues, and leaders in the education and business communities, to develop new policies for our 21st century economy.”
