Flood warning for far south Clark County amid road closures

Storms hammered Laughlin and Bullhead City, Ariz., Tuesday afternoon, leading to road closures, the National Weather Service said.

Needles Highway by mile marker 5, near Casino Drive and the Colorado River in Laughlin, was closed due to flooding Tuesday afternoon, Las Vegas police said. U.S Highway 95 leading into California also was shut down in the area.

A severe thunderstorm warning was called off after 3:15 p.m. for Laughlin, Bullhead City and Kingman, Ariz.,the weather service said.

A flash flood warning was in place for far southern Clark County — which includes Searchlight and the Arizona and California borders — until 5:45 p.m. following severe thunderstorms.

Laughlin saw almost an inch of rain in 30 minutes, the weather service said. High winds caused power outages in Bullhead City and Golden Valley.

The weather service said to expect the Las Vegas Valley to remain dry.
