Clark County GOP files complaint against state Controller Wallin
The Clark County Republican Party has filed a complaint against state Controller Deborah Kim Wallin, alleging that she appears to be gaining financially from her campaign contributions.
Republicans said Wednesday it had filed its complaint with the Nevada secretary of state.
Wallin, a Democrat, is running for state treasurer. She said that her campaign expenditures are in order and that the other side needs to do its research.
GOP officials said Wallin’s past three campaign contribution and expenditure reports list more than $33,000 in payments to her company, D.K. Wallin, Ltd.
“Ms. Wallin is asking Nevadans to trust in her ability to invest our hard-earned tax dollars wisely, but she has broken the most basic campaign finance rules,” said Nick Phillips, the political director of the Clark County Republican Party.
Wallin reported $33,123 in expenses between Nov. 1, 2013, and June 4 to her company, classifying them as “expenses related to paid staff” in the reports.
Wallin said that the company is handling payroll services for the campaign and the dollar amounts reported include payroll taxes, health insurance and workers’ compensation expenses.
The complaint said that Wallin is listed as the only officer and director of her company and questioned her reporting a business address that belongs to a different company.
Wallin said that only a certified public accountant can have ownership in a CPA firm and that she subleases space at the address in question and has three employees.
