Body found by hiker in Mountain Springs identified

The Clark County coroner’s office on Tuesday identified the skeletal remains of a hiker found Dec. 30 in Mountain Springs, an unincorporated area south of the Spring Mountains between Las Vegas and Pahrump.

Thomas Collins, 60, was found by the hiker around 4 p.m. that day, and Las Vegas patrol officers in the area responded, Metro spokesman Officer Jesse Roybal said Tuesday. Because the site was so rural, Collins’ remains weren’t found until later that night.

Search & Rescue then recovered his body. As of Tuesday, Roybal said the case was not being investigated as a homicide.

The coroner’s office is working to determine Collins’ cause and manner of death.
