Woman charged after 2 men thrown from top of moving car

Las Vegas police arrested a woman Friday on a DUI charge, among others, after two men riding on the trunk of a car were thrown from it near Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.

Alexandria Rae Garcia, 19, faces two counts of a DUI charge resulting in substantial bodily harm after failing sobriety tests, police said.

Garcia and three other people were returning from a bonfire in a desert area near Las Vegas High School just before 5 a.m., Metro spokesman Sgt. Richard Strader said. Two men, ages 18 and 19 years old, were sitting on the trunk of a Hyundai sedan driven by Garcia, who was giving them a ride back to their car that was parked near Morning Cloud Lane.

Both men were thrown from the vehicle when it suddenly veered to the left on Sahara. The 18-year-old was in critical condition after suffering severe head trauma. The 19-year-old is was in serious condition. Both were taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
