Trench collapses on Strip, knots traffic at Spring Mountain

Motorists were advised today to avoid the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road because of a trench collapse.

The trench that used to be 10 feet by 6 feet expanded to 25 feet to 10 feet, forcing the closure of all but one lane in each direction on the Strip, according to a news release from Clark County about the Southwest Gas steel pipe project.

Traffic on Spring Mountain Road/Sands Avenue was reduced to one lane eastbound and two lanes westbound.

The contractor on the scene will work around the clock until the problem is repaired, the county said. The work is not expected to be completed before Sunday morning.
