Small earthquake rattles Las Vegas area

Updated September 29, 2022 - 9:27 pm

A magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck an area in North Las Vegas on Thursday evening.

The quake hit at 8:06 p.m. at Craig Ranch Regional Park off Craig Road, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was about 7 miles deep.

A North Las Vegas resident, who lives near the park, told the Review-Journal that she heard a “loud rumble” before a “loud bang” hit her house. Another resident said they felt their house shake. Power is still on at both residences.

“Lots of people called the police to say they felt the ground shake, but no reports of any significant damage,” North Las Vegas Police Department Sgt. Jeff Wall said.

Nothing significant was reported to the North Las Vegas Fire Department, according to Deputy Fire Chief Travis Anderson.

According to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, the quake’s epicenter was in the southwestern part of the park, just north of the skatepark.
