Robbery suspect arrested after standoff

A man police believe robbed several businesses with a knife early Tuesday morning was arrested after a standoff that closed a busy intersection for hours.

Police believe Eddie Rodriguez, 44, robbed an unknown number of businesses between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. The last robbery was in the 9400 block of Peace Way.

An officer spotted a car linked to the robberies just before 5 a.m. and a short pursuit ensued. The chase ended when the car crashed in a lot near a Walgreens at the corner of Desert Inn and Fort Apache roads.

The driver then refused to surrender or leave his car, police said, closing Desert Inn and Fort Apache for several hours.

During the standoff, the man showed police his knife and threatened to kill himself, police said.

He was eventually arrested, and no one was injured.

Rodriguez is being held at Clark County Detention Center and faces four counts of robbery with a deadly weapon and four counts of burglary with a deadly weapon, Metro said Tuesday afternoon.

Rodriguez is being held on $240,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Christmas morning.

A booking photo was not available Tuesday afternoon because the investigation is ongoing, police said.
