ROAD ALERT: Mint 400 race, parade bring street closures to Vegas

Off-road racing means on-road closures this week.

Two downtown Las Vegas streets will be closed and two lanes on Las Vegas Boulevard will be restricted for pre-race events leading up to Saturday’s Mint 400 off-road race.

The race will be on a desert course south of Las Vegas. Most of the course is between Jean and Primm, east of Interstate 15. The starting and finish lines are near Primm and there are several spectator areas along the course.

Two sets of races are planned with the first beginning at 6 a.m. and the second about 2:30 p.m.

City officials said two streets in downtown Las Vegas will be closed for vehicles in the race to be on display.

Stewart Avenue and Fremont Street will be closed between Las Vegas Boulevard and 11th Street from 8 a.m. Wednesday through 9 p.m. Friday.

Ogden Avenue, the east-west street between Stewart and Fremont, will remain open to traffic.

Race vehicles will parade along Las Vegas Boulevard to Fremont Street beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Two lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard will have rolling closures from the South Point on Silverado Ranch Boulevard north to Fremont.
