Red Rock Resort reschedules Fourth of July fireworks show
Red Rock Resort’s canceled Fourth of July fireworks show has been rescheduled for Saturday night, and officials are promising an “unforgettable performance” to make up for Thursday’s last-minute scratch.
The show, which officials previously said would last nine minutes, is set to begin at 9 p.m. Saturday.
In a joint statement released Friday by Station Casinos, which owns and operates Red Rock Resort, and Fireworks by Grucci, the pyrotechnic company took responsibility for the cancellation.
“The late notice for the cancellation is our responsibility and we apologize to Station Casinos, their guests and the entire Southern Nevada community,” the statement read in part. “We promise to more than make up for the cancellation by staging an unforgettable performance tomorrow evening. We highly value our long-standing relationship with Station Casinos and the entire Las Vegas community and are sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment the cancellation has caused.”
Resort officials announced the cancellation Thursday night, about a half-hour after its scheduled 9 p.m. start time, in a statement posted across their social media accounts, saying the show had been shut down “out of an abundance of caution and concern” after a vendor failed to file the appropriate paperwork with the Clark County Department of Building Fire Prevention.
On Friday, county spokesman Erik Pappa confirmed that a permit for Saturday’s show had been approved.
Pappa said Fireworks by Grucci had never submitted a permit application for Thursday night’s show, forcing Red Rock Resort to cancel.
“The normal process is for an application to be submitted, generally several days in advance of the event,” Pappa said. “Since the permit application package was not submitted, an inspection was not scheduled nor were the approved documents available that would have allowed an inspection to be performed.”
Though the fire chief and the fire code official have the right to shut down the show, Pappa noted that neither did so, because the resort canceled the event.
The fireworks display at Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, another Station Casinos property, went off as planned Thursday night. That show also was produced by Fireworks by Grucci, which has designed Fourth of July displays for Station Casinos for more than 12 years.
The Grucci family has been in the fireworks business for more than 100 years, Mike Sullivan, chief pyrotechnician, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal ahead of last year’s Fourth of July celebrations.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump tweeted that “Phantom Fireworks” and “Fireworks by Grucci” had generously donated to “the biggest fireworks Washington, D.C. has ever seen” for the capital’s July 4 celebration.
