MIXED MARTIAL ARTS COMPETITION PLANNED SATURDAY AT CANNERY

Rogue Warrior Cage Fighting Championships , a mixed martial arts competition to benefit wounded military service members , is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cannery Casino, 2121 E. Craig Road . The event is to aid the Stars and Stripes Foundation , a local nonprofit organization assisting wounded military service members, veterans and their families .

Stars of Ultimate Fighting Championship and Mixed Martial Arts are slated to participate.

Tickets are $75 for ringside , $35-$55 for tiered seating and $20 for general admission , plus tax and fees.

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS, 24 HOUR FITNESS PLAN SUMMER SKILLS CLINICS

The Harlem Globetrotters comedy basketball team is partnering with 24 Hour Fitness to host 120 summer skills clinics for youths across the United States. Designed to take fans ages 6 to 14 behind the curtain to see the magic behind the Globetrotters’ skills and tricks, participants will also learn about the importance of staying active and eating healthily. The clinics will take place at approximately 40 24 Hour Fitness clubs in nine states over a 10-week period this summer, including two locations in Las Vegas.

Each clinic will be conducted by current Globetrotter players. Two three-hour clinics are planned in Las Vegas:

8:30-11:30 a.m. and 2-5 p.m., June 25-27, 2090 Village Center Circle

8:30-11:30 a.m. and 2-5 p.m., June 28-29, 5651 Centennial Center Blvd.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD CAMP OFFERED

A junior lifeguard camp for those ages 12-15 is scheduled for Monday through June 22, July 9-13 and Aug. 6-10 at the Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive. The cost is $45 per week.

Participants will receive American Red Cross Adult CPR certification and learn essential pool lifesaving skills.

Registration is open for summer youth camps (ages 6-15) at a variety of locations. Camp hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, through Aug. 24. There will be no camps July 4.

The cost is $75 per child for the week and $70 for each additional child in the family. Summer camps will promote fun, fitness, adventure and education in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Registration will close when the programs are full. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details. The locations are as follows:

SWIMMING LESSONS AVAILABLE FOR VALLEY RESIDENTS

Las Vegas Swim Academy has begun registration for swimming lessons. Private, semi private, Baby & Me and swim team groups are available.

Baby & Me classes are scheduled as follows:

8 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, June 18 through July 18

8 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 19 through July 19

5 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 29 through Oct. 17

All Baby & Me classes are 30 minutes long. Class size ranges from four to six students. The cost is $100 for eight classes. The pool is heated to over 90 degrees.

FIND ALTERNATIVE CAMPING SITES AT RED ROCK CANYON

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area’s developed campground – Red Rock Campground – is scheduled to temporarily close through Aug. 30 during this low-usage period.

Red Rock Campground is in the conservation area approximately two miles east of the Visitor Center on state Route 159 (West Charleston Boulevard) and is the only developed campground within the conservation area.

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the many other camping opportunities in the area, including: backcountry camping at Red Rock Canyon with a permit, 515-5050; Valley of Fire State Park, 397-2088; Lake Mead National Recreation Area, 293-8990 or 293-8906; Death Valley National Park, (760) 786-3200; Mojave National Preserve, (760) 252-6100; U.S. Forest Service Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, 515-5400; Spencer W. Kimball Scout Reservation, 968-8138; Potosi Pines Camp, 875-1980; and the Clark County Shooting Park, 455-2000.

Camping is allowed on Bureau of Land Management land outside of the Las Vegas Valley for up to two weeks without charge. Popular primitive (no facilities) sites include Bitter Spring Back Country Byway, Gold Butte Back Country Byway, Knob Hill, Virgin Mountains, Christmas Tree Pass and Logandale Trails System.

The BLM reminds residents that summer is the dry season and to be careful with campfires.

NIGHT HIKE PLANNED AT RED ROCK CANYON

A night hike is planned for Monday at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. No moon will rise that evening, making it a good time to view the stars. Join the ranger on this three-mile hike to learn the summer constellations and some of the famous stories behind them. Participants are asked to bring a flashlight.

The hike is rated moderate and is for those 12 or older. Space is limited. For more information, including the start time, and to register, call 515-5367.

BASEBALL FUNDRAISER PLANNED TO BENEFIT HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA

The fundraiser A Night with the 51 s is set for 7:05 p.m. June 23 at Cashman Field, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, to benefit HELP of Southern Nevada, 1640 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 100. The nonprofit group is dedicated to helping low-income families. The event is set to feature a free baseball hat coupon with a $10 ticket purchase as well as other opportunities to win prizes. HELP of Southern Nevada is to receive $3 from each ticket.

GOLF ROUNDUP PLANNED TO AID HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA

An annual golfer’s roundup event is set for 7 a.m. June 25 at The Las Vegas Country Club, 3000 Joe W. Brown Drive, to benefit HELP of Southern Nevada. FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULES BASKETBALL SUMMER CAMP

Foothill Falcon Basketball has scheduled its annual summer basketball camp for Monday in the Foothill High School gym, 800 College Drive, for boys and girls entering third through ninth grade. DASH & SPLASH SET FOR SATURDAY AT PARK AND POOL

Dash & Splash, a 1.5-mile run followed by a 300-meter swim, is planned for 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park and Pavilion Center Pool, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

There is no age limit, but participants must be able to swim 100 meters successfully. The cost is $15 with preregistration and $20 on event day.

YOGA WITH ROVER EVENT SET FOR SATURDAY

The seventh annual Yoga with Rover event is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Yoga Sanctuary, 7915 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 101.

Bring your dog to stretch with Amy Herzlich, a yoga lover and owner of Innovative Pet Therapy, at this special class designed for participants and their dogs. Learn yoga poses and massage techniques modified for canines that will enhance your dog’s well-being and bond with your dog while helping it to relax, increase circulation and flexibility.

Dogs must be dog- and people-friendly, fully inoculated and housebroken. Registration is required. A minimum donation of $25 is requested. All proceeds will go to Heaven Can Wait Sanctuary, a local nonprofit animal organization for unwanted and homeless pets.
