Police: Red Rock hiker dies after medical episode

A man died while hiking at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Monday, Las Vegas police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue Unit responded after receiving a call about 1:45 p.m. that a person’s father had fallen on the trail in the Ice Box Canyon area.

The man appeared to have suffered a medical episode while hiking on the trail, police said.

The Bureau of Land Management waived the entrance fee to the park for Veterans Day weekend.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the man’s identity and cause of death.
