Photos: Red Flag takes off at Nellis

Fighter jets and bombers filled the air with thunder from their powerful engines Wednesday at the north end of the Las Vegas Valley.

More than 100 aircraft headed north from Nellis Air Force Base to the skies over the Nevada Test and Training Range for a Red Flag air combat exercise that runs through July 25.

Besides Air Force jets from a number squadrons at U.S. bases in the continental United States, Italy and England, this Red Flag includes C-130s and C-160s from the French air force, and F-16s, F-15s and CH-47s from Singapore’s air force.
