Peter Reveen, hypnotist who managed Lance Burton, dies
Peter Reveen, who had a worldwide career as a hypnotist and magician before he settled in Las Vegas as Lance Burton’s manager, died Sunday of complications from diabetes and dementia. He was 77.
“As a stage hypnotist he had no peer, he was simply the best in the business. As my manager for 20 years he was my most trusted adviser,” Burton said in a statement released Monday. “I am sad today. I will miss him.”
Reveen engineered Burton’s move from longtime specialty act to Monte Carlo headliner in 1996.
Reveen remained involved for most of Burton’s years at the Monte Carlo, which ended in 2010.
Reveen oversaw filming of Burton’s show at the Hacienda in 1994 for an NBC TV special, then locked the magician into a long-term deal for the custom Lance Burton Theater that opened with the Monte Carlo, when it was still rare for a venue to carry a performer’s name.
The Australian manager was the unseen narrator of Burton’s television commercials, a hint of the long performing career that came before his Las Vegas years as more of an offstage presence.
Reveen was a known mainly as a hypnotist and was especially famous in Canada, but also performed at Caesars Palace and for a stretch in the Tropicana’s “Folies Bergere” in the 1970s.
