Pedestrian struck, injured after crash near Las Vegas airport

Updated January 28, 2025 - 8:38 pm

A pedestrian suffered what were described as life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning near Harry Reid International Airport.

The crash occurred just after 4:35 a.m. in the area of West Sunset Road and Las Vegas Boulevard South, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jeff Dean.

Investigators say a 2015 Nissan was stopped facing north on Las Vegas Boulevard, south of Sunset, in the second left-turn lane for a red traffic arrow.

When the traffic signal cycled to a green left-turn arrow, the Nissan made his left/westbound turn. A pedestrian crossing over Sunset failed to obey the “Walk, Don’t walk” pedestrian traffic control signal and crossed the Nissan’s path of travel, police said.

The front of the Nissan struck the pedestrian, projecting him forward and onto the roadway.

The victim, a 53-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to University Medical Center. The driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment.

This collision remained under investigation.
