Pedestrian killed in crash near downtown Las Vegas

Updated January 29, 2021 - 7:36 pm

A pedestrian was killed Friday afternoon in a crash near downtown Las Vegas.

Officers were called at 2:42 p.m. to an injury crash near East Charleston and Las Vegas boulevards after a woman crossing the road outside an intersection was struck by a 2000 Ford Expedition, according to Metropolitan Police Department traffic Lt. Bret Ficklin.

Ficklin said the woman was crossing Charleston about a half-block from the intersection when she was struck. She was taken to a University Medical Center where she died.

The driver, a 50-year-old Las Vegas man, remained on scene, and Ficklin said investigators do not suspect impairment. Multiple witnesses were being interviewed.

“Make sure you’re crossing where you’re legally able to cross,” Ficklin said, pleading with pedestrians. “Even when you’re crossing in a place where you’re legally able to do so, make sure you’re aware of your surroundings, aware of what’s going on around and taking the steps that you can to keep yourself safe.”

Two hours before this crash, Henderson police were called to Via Garda and Roma Hills drives for a crash involving a pedestrian who died at the scene.

The identity of the woman will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office after her family is notified.
