Obama plans to return to Las Vegas on Tuesday

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will visit Las Vegas on Tuesday, his first trip outside Washington since he began his second term, White House officials confirmed Thursday.

It also would be Obama’s first visit to Nevada since his re-election. The president was a familiar face in the state during his campaign, making at least 10 stops.

Details of the visit were not immediately available.

The trip comes at a time when White House officials have said the president plans to hit the road to sell his second-term agenda to the American people.

“The president will travel. You can expect that,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday. “He will, as he does, make the case to the American people for the vision he laid out in his inaugural address, and the specifics he will lay out at his State of the Union address on February 12.”

Obama’s campaigning in Nevada paid off as he defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the state by a 52.3 percent to 45.6 percent margin.
