June 23, 2015 - 6:12 pm
A motorcyclist died in a crash Tuesday on Interstate 15 that closed northbound lanes of the freeway in North Las Vegas for nearly three hours.
Nevada Highway Patrol and North Las Vegas firefighters responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and a Toyota Corolla near the Cheyenne Avenue exit about 1:30 p.m.
Witnesses told NHP troopers that the motorcyclist, described only as male, was speeding and struck the rear of the Corolla.
The motorcyclist died where he crashed, NHP Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said. His age was not immediately available.
He will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family has been notified.
The man who was driving the Corolla was not hurt, Stuenkel said.
Traffic on northbound I-15 was diverted onto Lake Mead Boulevard until about 4:15 p.m., according to the Regional Transportation Commission.
