NHP seeks red semi in Spaghetti Bowl crash that killed woman
Nevada Highway Patrol is looking for a red semi-truck that witnesses said left the scene of a crash that killed a woman Monday afternoon at the Spaghetti Bowl, the department said.
NHP troopers responded to the crash just after 1 p.m. on southbound Interstate 15 at the U.S. Highway 95 interchange, Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.
Witnesses told troopers a red Ford SUV was traveling south on I-15 when a red semi-truck with a black tarp over its trailer veered into the SUV’s lane, Stuenkel said. It is unclear whether or not the truck made contact with the SUV, she said.
The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle, which struck the freeway’s center wall, Stuenkel said. The 65-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man who was in the passenger seat of the SUV was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Stuenkel said. No other vehicles were hit in the crash.
NHP tweeted about two hours after the crash that it was looking for the semi-truck that left the scene.
Traffic was down to one lane until about 3:20 p.m. while troopers investigated, Stuenkel said.
The Clark County coroner’s office will release the name of the woman who died after her family has been notified.
