A motorcyclist died after a crash involving a backhoe in the northwest Las Vegas Valley on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Police were called just before 2:30 p.m. to the crash at West Craig Road and Al Carrison Street, near North Durango Drive, the Metropolitan Police Department said. Police believe that the motorcyclist was driving west on Craig Road when he hit the back of a backhoe traveling north on Al Carrison Street through the intersection, throwing the man from the bike.
Police said the motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man driving a 2014 Ducati 1199, was speeding when the crash happened. The man died at the scene.
He will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family is notified.
The 45-year-old man driving the backhoe, a Caterpillar 420F2, stayed at the scene and did not appear impaired, police said.
The motorcyclist’s death marked the 130th traffic-related fatality that Metro has investigated this year, police said.
