Motorcyclist, 23, dies in Saturday night accident in south valley

A 23-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday night in the south valley while trying to avoid hitting a car on Warm Springs Road near Spencer Street, Las Vegas police said.
The identity of the deceased was not released by authorities. He lived in Las Vegas.
Police said at 7:23 p.m. the motorcyclist was driving a 2002 Honda CBR 600 west on Warm Springs as he approached the Spencer intersection. Penny Casey, 50, was driving a 2006 Lexus GS300 east on Warm Springs and made a U-turn at the intersection of Spencer.
Police said the Lexus entered the path of the motorcyclist causing him to brake. The motorcyclist was unable to stay upright and was ejected from his motorcycle. Both the man and his motorcycle slid into the side of the Lexus.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Casey and her passenger, 26-year-old Melissa Schaefer, sustained minor injuries.
The collision is the 11th traffic fatality of the year in the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police. The collision remains under investigation.
