Moped driver loses control, dies in northeast valley crash

Updated April 30, 2024 - 12:58 pm

A Las Vegas man died Monday night in a moped crash in the northeast valley.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the crash happened at 6:45 p.m. at North Nellis Boulevard and Sandra Road.

In a statement, police said “evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that a 2022 Zhejiang TaoTao scooter was traveling north on N. Nellis Boulevard approaching Sandra Road. The scooter traveled off-road left and onto the raised center median of N Nellis Boulevard before overturning and ejecting the rider.”

The Las Vegas rider was taken to University Medical Center and later died. The Clark County coroner’s office identified him as Steven Moore, 58.

The death marked the 58th traffic-related fatality in the department’s jurisdiction for 2024. Speed and impairment were not believed to be factors in the initial stages, police said.
