Metro to name buildings for three former sheriffs

A trio of Las Vegas police buildings at the agency’s Martin Luther King Drive headquarters will be named after three prominent sheriffs from the past 50 years.

Plaques honoring sheriffs Ralph Lamb, John McCarthy and Bill Young will be unveiled in a ceremony Thursday at 2 p.m., according to Metro.

Lamb served from 1961 to 1978, McCarthy from 1978 to 1982 and Young from 2003 to 2009.

They are being honored for their contributions to Clark County, police said Wednesday, including the More Cops Tax, the Clark County Detention Center, and the merging of the Las Vegas Police Department with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office which formed Metro.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the first floor of Metro headquarters, 400 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
