Man to face jury in fatal road rage shooting
A Las Vegas judge ruled Monday that prosecutors had enough evidence against a 30-year-old man charged with murder in a road rage shooting last month to take the case to a jury.
Along with murder, William Jacobsen faces charges of discharging a gun within a prohibited area and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
Police said Jacobsen shot and killed Marlon Baylor, 49, near the intersection of Flamingo Road and Torrey Pines Drive on Nov. 13 after Jacobsen got into a fight with Baylor and his wife.
When the vehicles came to a stop at the intersection to Flamingo and Torrey Pines, police said, Baylor’s wife got out of their car to confront the other driver.
Baylor then exited the vehicle, police said, and Jacobsen shot him.
Jacobsen drove away but later called 911 from his home, according to police, who said Jacobsen’s version of events changed several times during questioning.
Prosecutors dropped one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of escape by a felony prisoner against Jacobsen because an officer was not available to testify during a preliminary hearing Monday. But the charges are expected to be presented to a grand jury at a later date.
