Man struck, killed while crossing street

A 79-year-old man died Thursday after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street, Las Vegas police said.

The man, who was not identified, was attempting to cross West Flamingo Road near South Torrey Pines Drive at about 7:35 p.m. when he was struck by a 2003 Honda driven by Las Vegas resident John Chee, 37.

The man was not in a marked crosswalk, police said. He was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

This was the 17th fatal accident in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year. The incident remains under investigation.
