Man killed in Tuesday police shooting identified

The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the man who died after a police officer shot him in a residential neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Las Vegas resident Travis Doering, 40, died of a gunshot wound to the head after at least one SWAT officer fired at him. He had left his home in the 5700 block of Macenta Avenue, near Twain Avenue and Lindell Road, armed with a rifle.

Police had been at the scene for approximately two hours after receiving a call from Doering’s roommates at approximately 3:30 a.m. reporting he had a rifle and was threatening to commit suicide, police said.

It is unclear as to whether Doering pointed the gun at officers once outside the home.

Doering’s death was ruled a homicide by the Clark County coroner’s office.
