Man killed in crash near Charleston at Valley View identified

The man who was killed in a four-vehicle crash Tuesday night has been identified.

He is Michael J. Gauthier, 62, of Boulder City, the Clark County coroner’s office said Friday.

Gauthier was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo south on Hinson Street approaching the intersection of Charleston Boulevard, just west of Valley View Boulvard, when he struck a stopped 1998 BMW 740 IL, Las Vegas police said.

Police said Gauthier may have had a medical episode just before the crash, which happened just after 7 p.m. Tuesday

The Monte Carlo continued into the intersection, crashing into a Toyota 4Runner traveling west on Charleston. The 4Runner overturned. A 2007 Nissan Sentra, also westbound on Charleston, struck the 4Runner.

Gauthier and the driver of the 4Runner, Gilberto Cazarez-Carrazco, 31, of Las Vegas, were taken to University Medical Center.

Gauthier was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Cazarez-Carrazco had minor injuries, according to police.

Police said they are not counting this collision as a traffic-related death until the medical examiner determines Gauthier’s cause of death. The coroner’s office said Friday the cause and manner of Gauthier’s death were pending.
