Man in serious condition after being hit by car Monday night

A man was seriously hurt when he was struck by a car in the central valley Monday night, Las Vegas police said.

At 9:26 p.m., Las Vegas police responded to a call in the 2500 block of Richfield Boulevard, near Sahara Avenue and Rancho Drive, Sgt. Richard Strader said. A man crossing the street in a marked crosswalk was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer driving through a green traffic light.

The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was thrown when he was hit, Strader said. He was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police initially said he was in critical condition, but upgraded his condition to serious in an early Tuesday morning news release.

The driver, 35-year-old Katrina Williams, was booked on one count of DUI at the Clark County Detention Center

“Two wrongs make it really wrong,” Strader said. “If he hadn’t crossed illegally, he wouldn’t have been hit by a car.”

“If she hadn’t been on the roadway, she wouldn’t have been in jail,” he added, “and he probably wouldn’t have been hit by a car.”

All lanes of traffic were closed eastbound on Sahara from Richfield to Teddy Drive for nearly five hours. Traffic was reopened just after 2:00 a.m.
