Man in critical condition after house fire Saturday morning

A man was in critical condition after a northeast valley house fire Saturday morning.

The Clark County Fire Department received reports of the fire at 5851 Meikle Lane, near Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards, about 6:50 a.m. First responders saw the single-family residence fully involved in flames, according to a department release.

The man was found on the ground in the rear of the residence with a head injury and transported to University Medical Center Trauma where he was undergoing surgery, Metro Lt. Terry Bernard said.

Thirty-six personnel were on scene to fight the fire, which was extinguished within 20 minutes, the release said.

Metro was working with Fire Department investigators to determine the cause of the fire, according to Fire Department spokeswoman Sandra Baker.
