Man arrested in Bellagio robbery identified

The man facing charges in robbing the Bellagio last week has been identified after withholding his name from police, and it turns out he has almost 20 years of criminal history in Kansas.

Scott Carmitchel, 34, was arrested Saturday night after police say he robbed the Bellagio of about $43,500 Friday evening.

Police say Carmitchel, who originally refused to give his real name to officers, was combative and uncooperative while being booked into jail.

Carmitchel will make an initial appearance Wednesday before a federal magistrate judge on charges, court documents show.

Authorities said he had been charged as a John Doe in the Bellagio robbery and an earlier robbery at a City National Bank.

Federal prosecutors obtained a writ to remove Carmitchel from the Clark County Detention Center and take him into federal custody for his appearance before the magistrate.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show that Carmitchel absconded from parole two months ago. His criminal records show he has made that a habit over the years. He was originally charged with battery against a law enforcement officer in 1998 in Kansas, and was convicted in July 2013 in Kansas of making a criminal threat.

As of Tuesday evening, Las Vegas police and the Kansas Department of Corrections had not spoken in regards to Carmitchel.
