Man arrested after north valley barricade

North Las Vegas police and the U.S. Marshals Service worked together to arrest a man suspected of robbery after a prolonged barricade Tuesday afternoon that also locked down two schools.

The situation began about 2:30 p.m., when the U.S. Marshals Service pursued a man who was suspected of being involved in a robbery on foot near Tropical Parkway and Commerce Street.

Initially, police and marshals were unable to find the man they were pursuing. But the marshals stuck around and eventually found the man, who had barricaded himself in a building.

“Their due diligence paid off,” police spokesman Aaron Patty said of the marshals. Just before 9 p.m., law enforcement finally took the man into custody.

Watson Elementary School, 5845 Commerce St., and Findlay Middle School, 333 Tropical Parkway, were locked down, district spokeswoman Melinda Malone said. The schools remained locked down until about 6:30 p.m. Parents were allowed to pick up their students, but students weren’t allowed to leave campus alone.
