Man and dog hit by truck during east valley walk; dog dies

An older man was hospitalized after he and his dog were hit by a truck while walking in the east Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday, police said.

The dog died.

It happened about 2:13 p.m., police said, when a white pickup struck the pair while walking along Aloha Avenue, near the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Nellis Boulevard.

The man initially refused medical assistance, but police said he was being taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons. Police said the dog died on scene.
