Man, 88, dies after backward car crash

An 88-year-old Las Vegas man died Saturday night after injuring himself when he lost control of his car while backing out of his driveway and slammed into a fire hydrant.

Las Vegas police said Arthur Finkelstein was thrown from the vehicle in the crash a little after 7:15 p.m. Thursday on Hawksdale Drive. He was taken to the hospital.

He died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, spokeswoman Stacy Acquista said.

Police are investigating what happened to make the 1988 Oldsmobile accelerate backward, circle back to a sidewalk and hit the hydrant.
