A Las Vegas sushi restaurant owner was sentenced to six months of house arrest for not filing taxes for cash transactions over three years, according to the Internal Revenue Service.
Myong Ho Pak, owner and operator of Yama Sushi Restaurant, 1350 E. Flamingo Road, near South Maryland Parkway, was convicted of one count of tax evasion in federal court in September. He was sentenced Wednesday.
Prosecutors said that from 2008 to 2010, Pak deposited only credit card transactions to the restaurant’s bank account. Cash transactions would go toward his personal account, the IRS said.
For those three years, he also filed false individual income tax returns that “understated his business’ gross receipts and understated his tax due and owing,” the release said.
Aside from house arrest, Pak has to pay about $250,000 in restitution and a $250,000 fine. He will also serve three years of probation, according to the release.
