Las Vegas nightclub workers donate $106,000 to toy drive

Nightclub employees Wednesday cleaned out a Walmart by buying more than $106,000 worth of toys for a radio station’s holiday charity drive.

About 100 employees at Tryst and XS nightclubs at the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore at Wynn Las Vegas arrived in a caravan of 50 cars escorted by Las Vegas police, then delivered the toys in two tractor-trailer rigs.

The donation shattered the workers’ donation of $68,000 last year, which was a record for the drive.

The KLUC-FM drive that started last week runs 12 days, with toys, bicycles and gift cards going to HELP of Southern Nevada. The drive is in its 12th year.

Senior U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks died after he was hit by a vehicle near the district courthouse in downtown Reno, the Reno Police Department said. He was 80.

Las Vegas police arrested three suspects they allege kidnapped a child at gunpoint Saturday and held him against his will for about six hours while they demanded a ransom from his parents.
