Las Vegas man arrested in New York mob murder case
A reputed New York mob associate was arrested in Las Vegas Tuesday on federal charges he killed a rival in Queens more than a decade ago.
Gennaro Bruno, who lives in Las Vegas, made an initial appearance on the charges in the afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bill Hoffman. A hearing to determine whether he should remain behind bars was delayed until Wednesday.
Hoffman ordered Bruno to stay in the custody of U.S. marshals until then.
Las Vegas FBI agents arrested Bruno in the morning at the office of his federal probation officer.
A 15-count federal racketeering indictment unsealed in Brooklyn identifies the 47-year-old Bruno as an associate of the Gambino organized crime family. The indictment describes him as a member of the “Young Guns” crew tied to the Gambino syndicate in the 1990s.
The court papers say he shot his victim in the back of the head a point-blank range in 2002 in a dispute over a scheme to smuggle high-potency marijuana to the United States from Canada.
