Lanes to close on Las Vegas Blvd. for the Strip 5K
Runners will be taking it off for charity in a 5-kilometer race Saturday to benefit military veterans, closing some lanes of the Las Vegas Strip.
Clark County officials announced Friday that some lanes will be restricted on Las Vegas Boulevard from the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign south to Sunset Road from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for the Strip on the Strip 5K. A portion of Sunset from Las Vegas Boulevard to Pilot Road will be closed for the event.
Participants have been invited to donate a piece of clothing at each 1-kilometer marker along the 5-kilometer course.
Clothing will be laundered and distributed at the 2015 Veterans Stand Down in the benefit sponsored by U.S. Vets-Las Vegas March 18-19 at Cashman Field.
The course begins and ends at the Sport Center of Las Vegas, 121 E. Sunset Road. Runners will head east on Sunset to Pilot Road, make a U-turn, then turn north on Las Vegas Boulevard, making another U-turn at the iconic Las Vegas sign, then turn east on Sunset to the finish line.
More than 850 pounds of clothing were stripped off and donated at last year’s event, the first running of Strip on the Strip.
Registration is $35 a person, $30 for active and retired military runners and $90 for a family registration of two adults and two children.
