Human bones found in desert

Bones found this week in the southwest Las Vegas Valley were human remains, police said Friday.

A hiker found the remains in the desert near Southern Highlands and reported the finding to police on Wednesday, Las Vegas police officer Barbara Morgan said.

The coroner’s office determined the remains were human, she said.

Police were waiting for the coroner’s office to determine how the person died before proceeding with an investigation, Morgan said.
