Henderson boy shot by 11-year-old identified

A Henderson boy who was shot and killed by an 11-year-old relative who found a gun in a box of toys was identified Tuesday.

Robert Martin IV, 5, of Henderson died Sunday afternoon from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

The shooting happened about 1:50 p.m. in the 500 block of Lairmont Drive, near MacDonald Ranch Drive, south of the Las Vegas Beltway.

Robert died at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus.

Police said Robert’s mother was visiting Sidney Jacobs, 37, the owner of the Lairmont home. The 11-year-old boy was Robert’s uncle.

The 11-year-old thought the gun was a toy, police said.

During a search of the house, detectives found five other handguns and rifles. All of the weapons were confiscated by police. There have been no arrests in the incident.

A Henderson spokesman said there were no updates on the investigation Tuesday .
