Five employees hurt in Jack in the Box restaurant fire

Five employees from a Jack in the Box on North Decatur Boulevard were treated for smoke inhalation after an early Thursday afternoon blaze burned the entire restaurant Thursday, Las Vegas Fire Department officials said.

The fire caused $1 million in damage at the fast food restaurant at 800 N. Decatur Blvd., near Washington Avenue.

Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said the blaze began about 12:30 p.m. and took firefighters 45 minutes to extinguish.

He said the fire was deemed accidental as a result of construction work on the building. Hot tar used on the roof spread to the restaurant’s attic, which began the fire, he said.
