Firm to buy Halloween candy to send to troops overseas

For the fourth year in a row, a Henderson orthodontics firm will buy back Halloween candy tonight to send to U.S. troops overseas, along with letters and photos from the home front.

Chenin Orthodontics in partnership with the Nellis Air Force Base Airman and Readiness Center will pay $1 for every pound of candy received.

“With this event, children bring candy in for cash, a toothbrush and free yogurt from our community partner, Golden Spoon,” Dr. David A. Chenin said in a news release.

He said U.S. military personnel who receive the candy also distribute it to children in Afghanistan and Iraq as a goodwill gesture.

More than 500 pounds of candy was collected during last year’s event. The goal for this year is 750 pounds.

The event is from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 10730 S. Eastern Ave., Henderson.
