Fire damages four downtown businesses

An overnight fire Wednesday damaged several downtown businesses and closed roads while authorities investigated.

Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said the building fire caused $200,000 in damage to four businesses: The Strip Sandwich Shop, Bingo Bail Bonds, Rescue Bail Bonds and Eichhorn & Hoo Attorneys at Law.

He said the roof caved in on the 3,300-square-foot building at 505 E. Bonneville Ave., near Las Vegas Boulevard South. The building was constructed in 1941.

There were no injuries.

Firefighters received the call at 2:15 a.m. after a Las Vegas police officer noticed smoke, he said. Firefighters knocked down the blaze at 3:39 a.m.

Szymanski said the attic was heavily damaged but most of the contents of the building were salvageable.

The cause is under investigation.
