Elderly woman dies in valley house fire

An elderly woman was found dead in a bedroom Friday night by firefighters responding to a house fire in the 6800 block of Creekside Lane, according to Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski.

Firefighters responded at about 6:20 p.m. to the single-story residence near Westcliff and Buffalo drives, and forced entry to the home that had light smoke coming from the roof.

The woman was found dead on the closet floor in a bedroom where a small fire was burning, Szymanski said. It is believed that a couple lived at the home, although that has not yet been confirmed.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide division will help in the investigation, which is standard protocol, he said. A cause of death has not been determined.

The damage appears to be confined to the closet and will probably be less than $5,000, Szymanski said.
