EDC brought traffic headache to I-15
June 22, 2015 - 3:48 pm
Traffic on Interstate 15 was anything but electric Monday morning as tens of thousands of attendees made their way out Electric Daisy Carnival’s finale.
The last performance of the three-day festival, began at 5:30 a.m. as some attendees started leaving. The event, hosted at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for its fifth consecutive year over the weekend, saw an estimated daily attendance of 135,000.
Those patrons made southbound lanes of I-15 look more like a parking lot on Nevada Department of Transportation traffic cameras Monday after the conclusion of the festival. Traffic was moving normally by the afternoon.
A 24-year-old man died at the speedway about 4 a.m. Sunday morning, Las Vegas police said. His identity, as well as his cause and manner of death, were not released by the Clark County coroner’s office as of Monday afternoon.
Compared to 2014, EDC saw an increase of ejections and mostly minor medical responses. The number of felony drug arrests and attendees taken to area hospitals remained about the same.
Between the hours of 6 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, 512 medical calls were reported, Metro’s statistical summary shows. Ten people were transported to area hospitals.
Weekend medical calls totaled 1,426 attendees, 27 of whom were taken to area hospitals, the summary showed.
In 2014, Metro reported 794 medical calls, 25 of which led to hospital visits. C&C Medical Events, which handles a free medical facility onsite, said that that number had totaled 1,065 people.
The summary shows 32 people were arrested the final night, one for a misdemeanor and the remaining 31 for “mostly narcotics related” felonies.
Insomniac, which organizes EDC, said 48 people were ejected, adding to the three-day total of 219. This compares to 136 ejections last year.
Arrests over the weekend, which were mostly narcotic related, totaled 76, compared to 73 last year.
